The Tenant (1976)

Trelkovsky: Stella, I was wondering…Stella: Yeah? Trelkovsky: A tooth… A tooth is a part of ourselves, isn’t it? Like a…bit of our personality. Stella: I don’t know what you mean. Trelkovsky: I remember in the newspaper, a man lost his arm in an accident and wanted to have it buried. Stella: He wanted to do what? Trelkovsky: Have it buried in the cemetery.Stella: He must have been nuts. Trelkovsky: The authorities refused. The arm was cremated and that was that. Stella: Where did this happen? In France? Trelkovsky: I wonder if they refused to give him the ashes and if so, by what right?Stella: Haven’t you got anything more cheerful to talk about? Trelkovsky: Tell me… At what precise moment… does an individual stop being who he thinks he is? Stella: You know, I don’t like complications. Trelkovsky: Cut off my arm. I say, “Me and my arm.” You cut off my other arm. I say, “Me and my two arms.”  You…take out… take out my stomach, my kidneys, assuming that were possible… And I say, “Me and my intestines.” Follow me? And now, if you cut off my head… would I say, “Me and my head” or “Me and my body”? What right has my head to call itself me? What right?

Guys, the second unit scenes I directed for Community air in tonight’s episode:

TONIGHT 8/7c “Romantic Expressionism” Jeff and Britta meddle in Annie’s love life when she starts dating Vaughn.
Witness the result of my first and probably last time directing for national television. Also featuring a cameo by Derek Mears (Jason Voorhees, Acceptable Martin) Also, I’m in it for a second. And the orange prison jumpsuits from the Channel 101 VH-1 pilot. And that orange weird curly wig that I use in every dumb video. 8pm on NBC.

Gamer managed to be a pretty good movie. Neveldine & Taylor (Crank, Crank: High Voltage) are total bros who just want to see stuff get shot and explode, but they’re really creative guys. I hate this genre, but I love Neveldine/Taylor.

Everybody Lies
by Matt Berger & Melissa Lusk

from
Songs For “The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep And Never Had To”
(original songs inspired by the novel by DC Pierson)

This is a cool thing. DC Pierson (Derrick Comedy, Mystery Team) wrote a novel, and I’ve been reading it. I also downloaded this EP of sorts from his blog — not really reading the description, just collecting MP3’s and adding them to a mix of new music. I was surprised and stoked when this song came on and I realized the collection of music is about the novel. The tunes inspired by the text, this song tracing the tone of the chapter I was just reading. A cool thing.

Whiplash
by Sunglasses

Blissful insane music video. Their myspace says their musical influences are “1991” but I think their music video influences are 1997 high school greenscreen FX.

Just re-watched all of Making Mistakes on the new Channel 101 site. That was a really fun show to make. If you’re bored, check out why Tom Kauffman is probably going to be writing scripts for real TV within a year, why Steve Agee, Whitney Avalon, Jim Klimek and Mike McCafferty are probably going to be starring in high-paying national commercials within six months, and why Dean Pelton is going to be dead by April.

Drive In Drive Out
by Dave Matthews Band

I had my adolescent DMB phase, let DMB be my high school Jimmy Buffet, and grew out of it somewhere after Crash was released and before I moved away to college. But I never grew out of this song. I’ll always love this song.

Channel 101’s evolving facelift
That’s right, dudes, non-profit, investor-less Channel 101 just got a facelift, and it will continue to get tweeked and adjusted thanks to the awesome efforts of Stuart Robertson, Sandra Mars, and Rob Schrab. Sorry for the little weirdness, like with Dumb Professor right there. The new shows from last night’s screening just went live, and we’re smoothing the system. Check out the new Prime Time line-up, now in a beautiful flash embed!
